Fairfield, CT–  Dr. Mark Melendez, a gifted Johns Hopkins Fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon — with offices in Greenwich and Shelton, Connnecticut — is pleased to announce that he has taken over Dr. David Yan’s medical practice — Fairfield Plastic Surgery in Fairfield,  Connecticut —  as of September 11, 2015. Dr. Melendez is a talented surgeon, who performs a full spectrum of cosmetic and surgical procedures for the face, hand, breast, and body, including facial rejuvenation (fillers). He also specializes in microvascular breast reconstruction surgery, including the DIEP flap procedure, for breast cancer patients.

Dr.Yan and his wife, Dr. Lisa Geer-Yan, decided to move to Venice, Florida, to join a multi-disciplinary medical practice. Dr.Yan — who trained with the same plastic surgery group as Dr. Melendez — Long Island Plastic Surgical Group in New York — during different years, decided to ask him to take over his practice. Dr. Yan chose Dr. Melendez to provide a continuum of high-quality medical care, for his patients, because he knew that Dr. Melendez was a highly skilled and dedicated surgeon who was commited to superb patient care.  Dr. Yan had opened this office, in December of 2011, and he knew that Dr. Melendez would be a good fit for his practice.

Dr. Yan states, “I think that Mark provides a specialized set of skills that is needed in the area. Fairfield will greatly benefit from what he can bring to the community.”

Dr. Melendez adds, “I am deeply honored that Dr. Yan asked me to take over his medical practice. I am devoted to incorporating his practice, into my own practice, and to providing all of my patients with excellent care for all of their cosmetic and reconstructive surgery needs. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Melendez has pledged to donate a percentage of the profits from his breast cancer reconstruction surgeries, that he performs during the months of October, November, and December of 2015, to Susan G. Komen Connecticut. Dr. Melendez, who sits on the Board of Directors of this esteemed Connecticut organization, would like to earmark his donation to provide mammograms for women in Connecticut. He notes that Connecticut has the highest incidence of breast cancer, in the United States, and that approximately 3000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, in the state, each year.

Dr. Melendez has been a proponent of educating local residents about breast cancer — from screening, to diagnosis, to surgical options — for the past few years. He has also volunteered his surgical services, for Connecticut residents without medical insurance, because he believes that everyone deserves expert medical care. In addition to performing volunteer surgery for patients, at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, at Greenwich Hospital, and at Norwalk Hospital, he also volunteers on one international medical mission each year. He has performed numerous volunteer surgeries, for children and adults, in Vietnam and Honduras. Additionally, Dr. Melendez was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Connecticut.
