Mark Melendez, MD, MBA Appointed Section Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Congratulations to Dr. Mark Melendez who was recently appointed Section Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Melendez received his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine and completed his Residency in General Surgery at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The John Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Melendez joined St. Vincent’s in 2015 and has been actively involved in our Breast Surgery program and Breast Tumor Board. He is an active board member of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and involved in many other local and regional organizations with great impact to our community.

Dr. Melendez is a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon who performs a full spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures for the face, breast, and body, along with facial rejuvenation (including dermal fillers). He specializes in microvascular breast reconstruction surgery, including the DIEP flap procedure, for breast cancer patients.
He is devoted to his patients and to providing the highest quality of truly personalized, holistic medical care. He provides all of his patients with his personal cell phone and he will also make house calls.
Dr. Melendez received his medical degree, with honors, from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. He completed seven years of general surgery training at Stony Brook University including two years of a research fellowship supported by the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Melendez completed a two-year plastic surgery residency with the largest plastic surgery group practice in the United States – the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group. Additionally, Dr. Melendez completed his Microvascular Fellowship at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where he was trained by some of the most prominent microsurgeons in the country.
Prior to his medical training and education, Dr. Melendez also earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Binghamton University; a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Long Island University, and a Master’s in Business Administration – where he was Valedictorian of his class – from the Harriman School of Business at Stony Brook University.
Dr. Melendez has an office located in Shelton, Connecticut. He and his staff are dedicated to ensuring that all of their patients feel safe and cared for, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere at all of their offices, and at seven area hospitals. He has staff privileges at Greenwich Hospital, Griffin Hospital, Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, St. Raphael’s Hospital, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Melendez regularly volunteers his surgical services to a wide range of patients, in Connecticut, and he also volunteers on medical missions to Vietnam and Ecuador. Dr.Melendez is also an Assistant Professor at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, at Quinnipiac University, in North Haven, Connecticut.
In May 2019, Dr. Melendez was honored at the Fairfield County Doctors of Distinction Awards, which celebrates extraordinary healthcare providers who go above and beyond, providing compassionate care and service to patients in the Fairfield County.
Dr. Melendez is a member of the American Society for Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Melendez is chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Dr. Melendez is Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Robert Larner M.D. School of Medicine, University of Vermont.
He is also Associate Professor of Surgery at Ross University of Medicine.
Dr. Melendez resides in Wilton along with his family.
